Covid-19 and The South African Auto Industry

Weekend Breakfast with Africa Melane on CapeTalk Radio 567AM “Car Talk” slot on Saturday, 18 April spoke to NAACAM’s Executive Director, Renai Moothilal on the topic of “Covid-19 and The South African Auto Industry”.

Mr Moothilal, discussed how the lockdown is affecting the automotive industry. He advised that NAACAM and other organisations have added inputs to the “Policy Brief Document”, prepared by professor Justin Barnes, which suggested that government should consider a risk-adjusted easing of the lockdown on the automotive sector. Export markets especially should be considered on how to return to a production environment and pilot how all autos companies could get back to manufacturing once the lockdown is lifted.
