MAHLE F1 SCHOOLS CHALLENGE EARNS THE PAVILION SHOPPING CENTRE A SILVER

Last year (2019) saw MAHLE Behr South Africa in partnership with the Pavilion Shopping Centre host the MAHLE F1 School Challenge, where promising young engineers, boys and girls were asked to design, build and race their own model race cars.

The F1 in Schools Challenge, was seen as a multi-disciplinary challenge and Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) based educational project. Learners were challenged to contextualise their learnt theories and knowledge to real life in a creative, engaging and problem-solving project of designing and engineering scaled cars which were judged, on a multitude of categories and then raced to determine the final winner. Prizes included; trophies and medals; tech gear; tog bags; headphones; stationery and other items.

The MAHLE School Challenge was made possible through partnerships with the Centre for the Advancement of Science and Mathematics Education (CASME) and The Pavilion Shopping Centre which was where the finals took place on 22nd and 23rd August 2019.

This year, with the agreement of MAHLE Behr, The Pavilion Shopping Centre entered the SACSC (South African Council of Shopping Centres) Footprint Marketing Awards for the MAHLE F1 Schools Challenge. The Annual SACSC Footprint Marketing Awards aims to recognise exceptional shopping centre marketing, innovation and creative achievements, along with economic success.

Collectively the MAHLE F1 Schools Challenge and its partners were awarded a silver in the Community Relations category.  The category requirement included a single or ongoing project, programme or event that focused on benefitting a specific community cause or charitable need, over a commercial or shopping centre goal.

“MAHLE couldn’t be prouder that our F1 School Challenge in partnership with The Pavilion Shopping Centre received this recognition, we would like to extend a huge congratulations to The Pavilion Shopping Centre for securing a silver award and we look forward to the future possibilities of the F1 Schools Challenge.” says Jolene van Heerden, MAHLE BEHR SA Communications Manager.
