The 2021 Metair Investments Limited Conference took place on 11th and 12th November 2021 at Smiths Manufacturing in Durban. The event included an exhibition by Metair manufacturing subsidiaries to showcase their achievements in the areas of localisation, transformation and innovation. The two-day event also presented current and future technologies, including localisation opportunities.
The Exhibition attracted keen interest and participation from OEMs, as well as NAACAM, Trade and Investment KZN, the Industrial Development Corporation, Durban Chamber of Commerce, TWIMS, Aveng Group, Trident Steel, Sumitomo Rubber and First National Battery’s customers.
Stakeholders appreciated the depth and breadth of products on display whilst gaining insight into future technologies and the Group’s localisation focus.
NAACAM Executive Director Renai Moothilal attended the exhibition and said he was impressed with the extensive technical capabilities displayed by the manufacturing subsidiaries. “It is incredibly encouraging to see the level of investment made by Metair in furthering localisation and new technology development in the sector,” he said.
Each automotive components manufacturing company within Metair Investments produces original equipment (OE) components used in the assembly of new vehicles, as well as spare parts and other products used in the South African automotive aftermarket. Products manufactured by each key business varies from brake pads, shock absorbers, lights, radiators and air-conditioners as well as generic aftermarket products for use in imported vehicles. Primary customers are the OEMs manufacturing new vehicles in South Africa as well as the local automotive aftermarket.
