A United Nations study estimates that one in 10 girls from Sub-Saharan Africa miss school during their menstrual cycle, with some missing out on 20% of their education.
Young girls are prone to drop-out of school or miss out on their education because of going on their periods. Yet it seems education around the importance of menstrual hygiene in schools is not prioritised. For this reason, Sumitomo Rubber SA (SRSA) partnered with menstrual health and hygiene NGO Elle International to donate menstrual cups to schools in the Ladysmith District.
SRSA hopes to provide the girls with the confidence that comes with access to menstrual health education and hygiene products that will positively impact their education and improve their school attendance.
SRSA CEO, Lubin Ozoux, said, “Giving back to the community is an ongoing priority for us. Education is a crucial pillar of SRSA’s corporate social investment strategy, which seeks to ensure that our business provides socio-economic benefits to employees, women, young people and the local community.” Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/3KDK02m
