During Youth Month, NAACAM members continued their commitment to upskilling and providing young South Africans with the opportunity to participate in the South African automotive component manufacturing sector.
NAACAM and its members have developed programmes and collaborated with various stakeholders to deliver impactful interventions for young people.
NAACAM Commercial Director Shivani Singh noted that “the upskilling of young people and the development of technical and engineering skills for the automotive component sector, is a strategic priority area for NAACAM. Over the last year, NAACAM has delivered several youth-focussed skills interventions, with #HighGearSA being the primary platform to build a pipeline of industry relevant skills”
Some of NAACAM members who have delivered youth-focussed initiatives include:
- Sumitomo Rubber South Africa has supported graduates through the company’s 12-month graduate programme. The programme will provide these young people with practical work experience and equip them to become more employable.
- Bridgestone Southern Africa – has been running a graduate development programme in partnership with the Yes4Youth programme since 2020. Through the partnership, 151 graduates have had exposure to the world of work.
- Purem by Eberspacher – currently has 134 YES candidates on a 12-month funded programme placed at various schools, SMMEs and NPOs as well as large industries within the aAutomotive supply chain, all within Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
- Adient PPC and CRH Africa – Onboarded 10 students that participating in short term placement under the High Gear Work Integrated Learning initiative.
- Robert Bosch– Opened doors for the youth in the labour market through various youth developmental programmes.
