NAACAM to run #AutomotiveAllies campaign this Women’s Month

Dear NAACAM Members,

This Women’s Month, NAACAM will be running the #AutomotiveAllies campaign on our social media platforms. Whilst the representation of women across the general automotive industry remains somewhat low, the components sector has made impressive gains in the last few years, in integrating women into key roles across our member companies – this includes more women holding senior executive roles, as well as a greater number of women involved in variety of operational and technical roles across Tier 1, 2 and 3 suppliers. It is also important to acknowledge the role of male allies in the sector, who have created a conducive environment for these women to thrive in.

To this end, NAACAM will profile these women and acknowledge the role of their allies over the month of August. The NAACAM social media platforms will be leveraged to ensure that the stories and learnings from these women will reach a wider audience, of both women outside the sector, as well as young women who may have an interest in entering the sector.

Who can make a nomination?

  • Anyone that works at a NAACAM member company

Who should you nominate?

  • Women in technical/production roles, which have made a meaningful contribution to the day-to-day operations of your company
  • Women that have excelled or delivered innovation in a particular portfolio, which highlights their contribution towards achieving the South African Automotive Masterplan’s objectives (for e.g. Transformation, Localisation, Technology and Skills Development, etc.)
  • Women in senior executive roles which are leading on the frontlines and setting an example for the women around them

Once the nominations have been received, @Beth Dealtry will engage the nominee to obtain some information:

  • A headshot of the nominee, as well as a company logo
  • A short biography about the nominee (200 – 300 words)
  • Some key advice from the nominee –

i.  #ThingsIWishIKnew – this could be advice about the sector, that the nominee wishes she could give her younger self

ii. #TheFutureIsFemale – this could be how the nominee plans to empower other women in the sector, in future

I strongly encourage you to look within your organisations and acknowledge the contribution of these women to our sector. It is only by elevating their achievements will we make meaningful strides in supporting the empowerment of other women in the sector.
