#WeAreNAACAM: South Africa’s automotive industry is entering a decisive decade, and the transition to electric-vehicle (EV) production in 2026 will be a defining moment particularly for the country’s component manufacturers. The sector faces growing pressure to boost localisation, improve competitiveness and adapt to rapidly changing global markets.
NAACAM’s Head of Policy and Regulation, Beth Dealtry, defined the challenge: “The EV White Paper gives direction, but implementation at scale will be the real challenge. For component manufacturers, this means preparing for new technologies, aligning with evolving OEM requirements, managing cost pressures, and ensuring their operations meet global standards.”
South Africa has a strong industrial base, the next phase will require coordinated action, from reliable infrastructure and supportive policy, to investment in modernised manufacturing and supplier development. With localisation central to the SA Automotive Masterplan 2035, the shift to EVs offers an important opportunity to deepen value addition and secure the long-term resilience of the components manufacturing sector.
