| #NAACAMinMedia: Africa’s mineral wealth presents an opportunity to grow automotive manufacturing, deepen localisation and support jobs. In Issue 2 of Digital Mining Pulse, a Mining Indaba publication, NAACAM CEO Renai Moothilal explores how regional cooperation, investment and supportive industrial policy can connect these resources to competitive automotive value chains. “Resource endowments alone do not establish a competitive component industry.” On what is needed to unlock this potential, Renai writes: “The challenge is to translate that foundation into investment in local production, supported by regional partnerships and the infrastructure manufacturers need to compete.” NAACAM is a strategic partner of Investing in African Mining Indaba, taking place from 8–11 February 2027 at the CTICC in Cape Town. NAACAM looks forward to engaging at Mining Indaba on how the mining and automotive sectors can foster greater collaboration to strengthen South Africa’s industrial competitiveness. Read Renai’s op-ed, “Building a competitive African automotive industry for the next generation”, on pages 50–52.
