HellermannTyton produces over one billion EdgeClips in Twenty Years

The concept of an Edgeclip is plastic housing with an integrated metal clamp consisting of a double tempered steel spring, which, when pressed over the edge of a piece of steel or aluminium provides an anchoring point to secure a fixing device such as a cable tie. The product is vibration resistant and requires no additional tools to fix. EdgeClips are ideal for the secure fastening of wire harnesses in the automotive industry.

The original part design has evolved into a series with hundreds of variants to suit numerous application requirements, especially where holes and adhesives are unsuitable. They can be used for fixing and bundling cables, pipes and hoses. Highlights of some of the EdgeClip family include:

HellermannTyton launched its first EdgeClip in 2000, which was a pragmatic solution to a post-production harness fastening issue that occurred on a car already in mass production. The first application of an EdgeClip was to prevent abrasion of fog lamp cables by inserting a cable clip that allowed cable routing behind the bumper. The existing edge was an ideal attachment point thus preventing any additional costly design modification The EdgeClip was simply pre-mounted in the correct position by the cable harness manufacturer. Twenty years later, EdgeClips are virtually in every vehicle on the road across the global.
