Following the Beijing Auto Show, NAACAM COO, Nduduzo Chala and Head of Policy & Regulatory Affairs, Beth Dealtry, along with the South African delegation traveled to Wuhu, the home of Chery Group, for engagements with the Chery leadership team and supplier base.
Meetings were held with Chery International President Mr Zhang Guibing, Vice President Mr Charlie Zhang and Chery South Africa CEO Mr Tony Lui. The primary focus of these engagements was to discuss Chery’s production plans for South Africa and how to unlock both production scale and localisation.
These engagements have set the scene for NAACAM’s interactions with the purchasing team responsible for the South Africa production project, and multiple suppliers within the NEV value chain including battery and electronic components.
Included in the SA delegation were representatives from Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA), AIDC Eastern Cape (AIDC-EC), East London IDZ (ELIDZ), Coega Development Corporation (Coega IDZ), naamsa | The Automotive Business Council and WesBank. #WeAreNAACAM
