Speaking at the Electric Trucks & Buses Conference in Johannesburg, Head of Policy and Regulatory Affairs at NAACAM, Beth Dealtry, shed light on South Africa’s automotive industry landscape and its potential trajectory, focusing on electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, localisation opportunities, challenges and policy frameworks.
Ms Dealtry highlighted the localisation opportunities within the sector, mainly focusing on EV associated components. “Collaboration with international partners on R&D and technology transfer is critical for scaling up.”
