South Africa’s automotive industry reached another important milestone with the official opening of Chery Group SA manufacturing facility in Rosslyn on 3 July 2026.
During the launch, NAACAM CEO Renai Moothilal and COO Nduduzo Chala met with Chery International leadership, including Chairman Yin Tongyue, President and CEO Zhang Guibing, and Executive Vice President Charlie Zhang, to congratulate the company on its investment and discuss opportunities to strengthen collaboration with South Africa’s automotive component manufacturing sector.
South Africa’s automotive future will be shaped not only by investment in vehicle assembly, but by the strength and competitiveness of its local supplier base.
Speaking at the Chery Plant Opening in Rosslyn, Deputy President, Hon. Paul Mashatile, reinforced this point:
“Assembly by itself may provide only shallow employment, but prospects are better with localisation because it creates significant job multipliers, broadens industrial ripple effects, and promotes skill development across generations.”
This reflects NAACAM’s longstanding position that sustainable industrial growth depends on deeper localisation, stronger domestic supply chains and a globally competitive component manufacturing sector.
NAACAM looks forward to working with Chery and industry stakeholders to unlock opportunities for local suppliers. This includes expanding industrial capability, creating sustainable jobs and strengthening South Africa’s position as a globally competitive automotive manufacturing hub.
