NAACAM Concludes China OEM and Supplier Visits

#WeAreNAACAM: Continuing on from meetings held with Chery Holding International‌ leadership in Wuhu, NAACAM COO, Nduduzo Chala, and Head of Policy & Regulatory Affairs, Beth Dealtry, undertook a specific NAACAM programme with the Chery localisation and purchasing team, as well as select Chery International suppliers.

This initiative was designed to better understand the supplier ecosystem linked to Chery, and to engage on localisation, supplier development, technology and skills transfer and industrial partnership opportunities.

The supplier visits included engagements with companies operating in strategically important areas of the new energy vehicle and advanced automotive components value chain, including:

• Anhui Qida Power Battery Technology Co.

• Anhui Red Power Microelectronics Co.

• Wuhu Hongjing Electronics Co.

• Wuhu Atech Automotive Co./ BiTECH Automotive Co.

Across the engagements, a consistent theme was the opportunity to work with Chery’s existing supplier base to localise component technologies not currently produced in SA, and the role of joint ventures and technical partnerships in building competitive supplier capability over time.

For NAACAM, the objective remains clear: To ensure that new OEM investment into South Africa strengthens the domestic component manufacturing base, creating more scale, depth and resilience.
