NAMPO’s Harvest Day 2026, one of Africa’s leading agricultural trade platforms, took place from 12 to 15 May in the Free State. NAACAM CEO, Renai Moothilal was in attendance, alongside multiple NAACAM members that were exhibiting.
NAMPO was a reminder of the role SA’s agricultural sector plays in anchoring demand for SA-produced vehicles, particularly in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment. This was illustrated by Toyota’s world record of largest gathering of Hilux vehicles.
The presence of NAACAM members, including AutoX and Bridgestone Southern Africa, also speaks to the breadth of capability within the South African automotive component sector. SA’s agricultural and the linked yellow metal, aftermarket and medium and heavy commercial vehicle (MHCV) segments represent a significant and growing opportunity for local component suppliers and a pathway to further strengthen domestic supply chains beyond the passenger vehicle segment. Appropriate policy support for these segments would diversify the base of the local industry.
From advanced engineering and mobility solutions to heavy-duty applications linked to agriculture, South African auto component manufacturers continue to prove their capabilities. And events like NAMPO highlight the diversity of end-markets available for component suppliers and the potential for cross-sector partnerships.
