NAACAM COO Highlights Opportunities to Strengthen SA’s Automotive Component Sector in Proudly SA Webinar

NAACAM COO Ndu Chala participated in the Proudly SA Webinar: Revving Up South Africa’s Automotive Industry, held on 20 August 2026.

Speaking on “The Future Competitiveness of South African Automotive Manufacturing,” Chala highlighted opportunities to strengthen South Africa’s automotive component sector through deeper localisation, increased production and continued investment.

With component CAPEX reaching a record R5.8 billion in 2025, Chala outlined NAACAM’s policy proposals to support sector competitiveness and create the conditions to protect and grow manufacturing employment.

He also highlighted growth opportunities in critical minerals, NEV components, ICE and hybrid demand, AfCFTA, new OEM entrants and the automotive aftermarket.

Increasing demand for locally manufactured products remains central to strengthening South Africa’s manufacturing base, supporting investment and creating sustainable employment opportunities across the automotive value chain.
