NAACAM Reflects on Chinese Tyre Manufacturers Looking to Establish Production in SA

NAACAM COO Nduduzo Chala,  provides insights on government efforts to attract Chinese tyre manufacturers to establish local production, with Sailun Group among the companies considering South Africa as a potential manufacturing location.

Reflecting on Chinese automotive component manufacturers setting up in SA, Chala said “The spin-off of having them manufacturer in our country is a good thing. We fully welcome them being part of the market, contributing at scale, rather than just pushing a product into the country”

The potential entry of a new tyre manufacturer would represent an important investment in South Africa’s automotive manufacturing base, with the opportunity to expand local production and support employment.

The article also explores the implications of new investment for South Africa’s existing tyre manufacturers and the importance of maintaining a competitive and sustainable domestic manufacturing environment.
